Or, to put it another way, if you’re a resident atheist foreigner, like I may or may not be, you’re just finished with the imported “gorging-yourself-stupid-on-commercially-slaughtered-animals-while-revering-a-dead-god-on-a-stick” festival, and you get to double down on the local “freezing-inedible-animals-to-death-while-eating-mystery-meat-on-a-stick” festival!

Brilliant as always Will. It reminds of the coin-toss-onto-a-wall shrines I’ve seen all over China. My first time to see one was in Shanghai during my 3rd year there. I had just tossed a coin in the water and my girlfriend grabbed my arm in dismay. She indicated that it was better to toss it across the water onto the stone onto some precarious ledge out of reach… Looking around at the non-tourists lurking about I began to wonder if perhaps the reason was to keep them from scooping the coins up with nets hidden under there coats…
